Faces of Service: Georgia

This month, we are proud to be recognising Georgia Soper as our Faces of Service candidate. 🌟

Georgia was recently awarded the Youth Civic Award by the Waimate District Council for her outstanding community service and leadership.

Throughout her time at Waimate High School, Georgia took part in a wide variety of volunteering activities, including sports coaching, tutoring, running events, participating on multiple youth boards, free babysitting, and running community-centered programs like ‘Adopt a Grandparent’ between her high school and a local retirement village. We are very excited to share that she has recently signed up for the SVA Otago Club at the University of Otago.

“I was inspired to volunteer through my family. My parents gave me my love for helping others, which led to my belief that small acts of kindness make a big difference. In particular, it inspired me to join SVA because of how it creates a sense of community whilst making a positive impact. Volunteering benefited me because it helped me grow my leadership, communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. It has helped me grow into the young woman I am today.”

When asked what she would say to someone thinking about volunteering for SVA, she said, “Go for it. SVA brings you into a community of like-minded people and provides opportunities, connections, and experiences that wouldn't be possible otherwise.”
