SVA Clubs

About SVA Clubs

Our university-based volunteer clubs are self-governed and based around youth leadership.

Following the success of the UC SVA Club over the past decade, the SVA Clubs programme now operates at seven tertiary institutions across Aotearoa - Auckland, Canterbury, Lincoln, Otago, Victoria and Waikato (Hamilton and Tauranga campuses).

The clubs follow the original kaupapa of SVA - young people coming together to make change and mobilise for their communities. Students lead the way to combat societal gaps while making participation easy, inclusive and enjoyable. They also get involved in crisis response operations when required.

Supported by the SVA Foundation Team with training and equipment, volunteers arrange and participate in regular volunteer events and attend our annual Clubs Conference, where they undergo training and preparation for crisis events and leadership development exercises. Our clubs volunteers enable us to provide safe and effective spontaneous volunteer management in a crisis situation on a national scale, utilising young people to organise and deploy volunteers of all ages.

Clubs are headed by executive committees who plan and facilitate volunteering opportunities for their members. Being a part of a committee is a fun yet challenging experience where students develop personally, gain transferable skills for their future careers and make a real a difference.

Clubs Conference 2024

The annual SVA Clubs Conference provides an opportunity for the leaders of SVA Clubs from universities across the country to learn, volunteer, and connect with one another.

Generously sponsored by our partners at AA Insurance, 2024’s three-day event in Napier was a meaningful mix of presentations, workshops, and volunteering, focused on the ongoing recovery efforts from Cyclone Gabrielle. There is a long tail when crisis hits and just because the emergency is over and the media coverage stops, doesn't mean the people impacted aren't still struggling. We were so grateful to connect with the Hawke’s Bay Clean Up Team and support the ongoing effort to restore private farms and residential properties.
