Waihi Beach Primary School

Our school’s projects are all about beautifying our community and clearing up public spaces.

The students have done some great work!

Great project! The kids loved having the opportunity to clean our school community. We did this every week for 6 weeks.

Our project was to clean up a piece of native bush in our town. This was a very valuable learning for the Year 4 and 5s in our combined classrooms.

The students were disappointed that the weather was bad at the end of term 3, as they had arranged a sausage sizzle and shared morning tea for the helpers. With that said, they took the rescheduling in their stride and completed the task that they had planned and carried out. This experience has lead to further investigations into plastic (we found lots in the Grove) and its effects on the planet.

The children are currently carrying out their own investigations and coming up with possible solutions for the community to reduce the plastic consumption and use of plastic bags. This was an excellent opportunity to see how far the children can go without out being over-directed by teachers.
