Despite this being the first time the class had done volunteering they did not hold back, and looked at doing ‘green’ themed initiatives which were giving back to the wider community, local parish, whanau and the school community.
Projects included a clean up of Sumner beach in Christchurch and making reusable bags in Fabric Technology which were then gifted to the elderly parishioners. Another project focused on collecting non-perishable food items every Friday for a month, which were then distributed to 38 families at the school that needed support. The final activity was an Enchantment Under the Sea disco which the kids raised funds to run through organising mufti days in the months leading up to it.
Teacher Judith described the projects as “amazing” and said “our students all participated and learned the value of many hands and open hearts”.
