We had a really exciting day on Wednesday finishing a stack of hand made cards and wrapping donated gifts for the elderly in our community. We had sent a request out to a local rest home to see if a visit and some Christmas cheer would be appreciated. They were overwhelmed as they had several residents that have no family and find the holiday season very lonely. This prompted a lot of discussion about how important the elderly are to us, the legacy they have left, and why it is important to make connections with them. We made several cards so that every resident could feel special, however special attention was given to 9 residents that did not have the blessings of family this Christmas. Donated gifts were wrapped and 3 lovely students were taken to deliver the goodies. There were happy tears from residents and staff alike. We realised the importance of what this gesture meant and were humbled by the overwhelming happiness it gave. We have arranged to visit early in the term where we will take students to read to the residents, as well as perform some musical items. Not too sure who is more excited, the residents, the staff or our students!
