SOUTHWELL SCHOOL

Southwell School

8CH – R29 classes from Southwell School have been involved in different projects during Term Three. One group sold cupcakes and raised over $1400 for Starship Hospital. Another group collected clothing for Waikids, while three students went to another school and interacted with students who had disabilities.  Holding a barbecue at Mitre 10 in the holidays to raise money for the Red Cross and hosting a games afternoon for refugees in our community are part of project plans for Term Four.

Our group made a range of goodies and treats which they presented to the SPCA. The students enjoyed the project and were pleased with the result.

We ran multiple projects and the students worked in groups.

A group of boys walked around our school oval for half a day, covering over 21km, to raise money for the WWF and Tigers.

A group of girls organised a farm visit for a refugee family on one of their farms through the Salvation Army. This family had an amazing day, which included visiting the cowshed and a good old NZ BBQ. They said it was a highlight of their short time in NZ so far.

A group of boys spent an afternoon up at the children’s ward at Waikato Hospital, entertaining sick children with drama and reading.

A group went into a rest home to play cards, games and just chatted with elderly people during their school holidays.

Two boys went to help feed the homeless at a homeless shelter in Hamilton.
