In Term 3 we completed our Take Action for Water project. My class inquired into the water cycle and how water effects everything around us.
We went to Belmont Regional Park, along with the support of scientists from the ministry for the environment and our school rep for Enviro Schools. We investigated the effect water has had on the area and tested the stream to see how healthy it was. We intended to then test one of our less healthy local streams, however, the weather did not allow this. Instead, we put up signs around our school for ideas on how to conserve water.
We also got a shower and tap demonstration model that showed the children the difference between high and low-pressure systems and how much water we use in a minute. The students then discussed solutions for this at home and school environments. A lot of children then went home and timed their families shower times and critiqued how much water they used!
