RAETIHI PRIMARY SCHOOL

Raetihi Primary School

Our SVA project was about revitalising our Raetihi community gardens so that people in our community have a free source of fresh fruit and vegetables. We spent time weeding and digging the gardens in early Term 3, but the first plants we planted were hit by frost and died.

We had to review our plan, and so we raised our plants at school ready to transplant when the weather was warmer. We had great success with our tomato plants and even had enough to give away to some of our students to take home and plant. We planted lots of potatoes, as they didn’t mind the cold as much. They are growing really well!

We really enjoyed the project and it has taught us a lot about gardening and how we can help our community.
