Our junior Health students heard about an interesting project to produce Christmas cards for the elderly residing in nursing homes across New Zealand. Apparently, there are many senior citizens who have no family that visit them and Christmas is a lonely time for them.

Three classes in Yr 10 volunteered to join the Christmas card project.

From the teachers perspective, we were so touched by the concern the students felt towards complete strangers and their willingness to send personal messages of love and hope. One young girl made a comment that she wished she could find all these elderly people and give them a hug – just to let them know they are not forgotten.

The cards – about 100 of them, were dropped off at a collection point in Browns Bay tomorrow.
