Hillpark School

Our project

Our project was to make Care Packs for homeless people in Manurewa and Manukau. 24 pupils from Room 25 got working and actively got involved in this project.

Benefits to our community

Our project was to collect items, make care packs and deliver it to the homeless in our community. We first asked permission from our principal to advertise this vision of our on our school Face Book page. Then we created several created posters to go around our school as well as FB. Our class wrote letters to the retailers asking for donations and our community donated heaps of items too. We are in the process of making these packs. It will be delivered in the first week of December.

Our learning

We learnt that our people are very generous when it comes to giving. the class was very able and went out of there way to do this project. What we could have done differently - perhaps organise a huge op shop type of collection at school and then handed the items to the homeless. This would have been a large scale project.

Value to the students - teachers perspective

Learning to show compassion. Kids has the opportunity to be generous, manage themselves, participate and contribute and just be competent with the key competencies of the NZC.
