We have had an extremely rewarding experience with our student volunteer army project. In collaboration with the students, we decided to work with Guthrie Smith Arboretum. We donated 70 native plants that the students had cultivated from cuttings and nursed to a stage where they were ready to plant.
As a background to the project, we attend Guthrie Smith for our year 7 and 8 school camp. The students wanted to develop their relationship with Guthrie Smith by giving back to the people who provide them with such an amazing experience. We hired a bus and took the students to Guthrie Smith, where they prepared sites and planted the trees.
When the year 7 students return to camp in 2018 they will be able to check on the trees they planted. All students have made a connection with the Arboretum for life.
