Term 3’s Learning Pathways Unit “Helping Heroes” was designed to encourage our class to think of ways in which we can help others and our community. We looked at the characteristics of people who help others have, who needs help, and ways in which we could help.
During this topic, we decided that it would be great to help our local children’s hospital, Kidz First. Many of our class had been there or known someone who had. The children who are admitted to Kidz First often have to spend some time recovering from illness or surgeries. During this time, Kidz First provide learning support and resources that help these children continue to learn during their hospital stay. We thought it would be awesome for us to support this by raising money to buy more learning resources.
Room 12 planned a bake sale to raise these funds! Everyone was given a job. We had children working out the budgets, sign writers, salespeople, communications (permission slips) and of course, everyone baked. The bake sale was a hit and we managed to raise $463.90.
We are all so proud of our efforts and the generous support of our school community. We now hope to buy these resources and present them to the hospital very soon.
